Chucao: Sensitive Interface Biome is a live performance that proposes a relational ecosystem in real-time. Two performers inhabit a sonic environment governed by a hexatonic scale derived from the spectral analysis of the Chucao (Scelorchilus rubecula), a bird endemic to the austral forests of Chile. The piece operates as a triadic system where the human, the computational, and the more-than-human coexist and mutually transform each other. The body activates the system through spatially distributed MIDI controllers; the generative system responds with sonic material; that material generates new bodily reactions that again influence the system. Technology becomes a space for affective encounter with the more-than-human, a way of keeping alive a bond with another living being across the distance of territory.

Bio

María Catalina Jorquera is a scenic artist, composer, and transdisciplinary creator whose practice sits at the intersection of performance, sound, technology, and the body. She holds a degree in Theatre from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, a Diploma in Dance, Body, and Education from the Universidad de Chile, and has studied musical composition at the Escuela Moderna de Música in Santiago. Her international formation includes an extended residency period at Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium (Denmark, 2016–2018) and participation in ISTA (International School of Theatre Anthropology, Italy, 2018). Her practice has developed through sustained research in popular festive codes, movement, performance, and the design of participatory body-sonic experiences.
Since 2019 she directs Proyecto Nuclio, a creation platform co-founded with Mario Carreño Martínez, whose works have circulated nationally and internationally: Mosquerío (2020), screened at Cine Arte Alameda (Santiago), Frame Rush Video Dance Festival (London), Postporn Film Festival (Warsaw), among others; K-minata (2021), presented at the Santiago Media Arts Biennial; and Fiestología (2024), a participatory audio-performance in public space developed with support from the Extension Center of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile.
Mario Carreño Martínez is a dancer, choreographer, and pedagogue who has spent over 20 years researching, teaching, and creating from within urban social and Latin American popular dance in Chile — cumbia, salsa, house dance, hip-hop, afro-Peruvian dance. His practice moves between community spaces, independent creation, and higher education, understanding social dance as a form of collective bodily knowledge and territory.
