N.A.I.P. is the acronym for “nessun artista in particolare” (“no artist in particular”) – a one-man musical project blending drum machine, synth, loop station, guitar, and vocals.
Behind the moniker is Michelangelo Mercuri, born in Calabria and based in Bologna.
After a long stint with i Dissidio, an experimental rock band from Lamezia, and an intense live presence in Italy’s underground scene, he launched his solo career in 2019 with Nessun album in particolare (“No Album in Particular”).
His name is both a statement of intent, a provocative and unsettling proposition, yet one that remains deeply rooted in the tradition of Italian singer-songwriters from the golden era.
A finalist in the 2020 edition of X Factor Italy, N.A.I.P. has pursued a path defined by sonic experimentation and a striking creative instinct, crafting a musical journey that is contemporary, multifaceted, and constantly evolving.
N.A.I.P. is a bold, risky, and delicate undertaking: an artist with remarkable performative range, serving a project that is innovative, unapologetically personal, and free of stylistic labels.
In 2021, he released DAVID CHI?, produced by Stabber, an electro-dance manifesto about liberation, reclaiming new spaces of humanity, and the importance of blasting music at full volume in a moment of global uncertainty.
In 2023, N.A.I.P. returned with Ho bisogno di, a tarantella-inspired single blending song, dance, and outburst.
It marked his first release with the label INRI and was selected as the soundtrack for the latest Vecchio Amaro del Capo commercial.
For the first time in his discography, the lyrics feature Calabrian dialect, and the intentionally unfinished title hints at a larger work still to be unveiled.
The track was followed by the EP Dovrei dire la mia as well as the national tour Dovrei essere in tour, produced and distributed by Vivo Concerti.
